FAQ

I want to/need to do marketing. Where do I start?

The easiest way to start is by sending me a short message. If you already know a bit about marketing and have an idea of what I can help you with, that’s brilliant. If you don’t know anything about marketing, that’s perfectly fine as well.

After having received your message, I’ll offer you a free meeting in which you can tell me more about your organisation and I’ll take a look at all the marketing material you’ve already out there. From there, I’ll suggest possible ways to proceed and you can then decide if you’d like to go ahead or not.

At best, we’ll find out that my services are a good match for your company and start a collaboration. At worst, we’ll have had a nice coffee and a chat somewhere.

Are you going to charge me lots of money?

Truth be told, I really wish I could. However, I know that money is scarce in most arts organisations and rest assured that my price structure reflects that knowledge. At the end of the day, I always strive to agree on a sum of money that is not too much of a strain on your organisation and still allows me to pay my bills (all of them).

In practice, this means that when we have our first chat, you can let me know your marketing budget, and I’ll let you know what services I can offer for the amount of money have at your disposal.

I also work with freelancers who simply book more time with me in the months they have more budget and we just let things rest in the months when there is not budget available.

I hate marketing. What do I do now?

First of all, there’s not judgement here. I hate Christmas. Although I love marketing, I do know that it can seem like a daunting task if you don’t have the right tools at your disposal or don’t know where to start. But let me assure you that marketing can be a lot of fun if it’s done right. And I can tell you quite a few stories in which my enthusiasm rubbed off on even the grumpiest of anti-marketeers and people did some equally great and fun campaigns.

Do I have to book your services for a minimum amount of time/hours?

Absolutely not! Every person/organisation has different marketing needs and the amount of time needed to move things in the right direction differs greatly. I have clients who see me for two hours every couple of months and I have clients who I work with a couple of times a week. It is up to you how much time and money you want to invest in marketing and I firmly believe that no matter how little time and money you spend on marketing there is always something one can do.

Do I absolutely have to do marketing?

The honest answer is ‘no’! There are very, very few things in life that one absolutely has to do and much to my chagrin, marketing is not one of them.

However, I am assuming that you and/or your organisation are doing great things and marketing is the best way to let the world out there know about it. You can always try it and simply let it go again if it doesn’t work for you. But at least, you will have tried.

Can you teach me how to do marketing myself?

Most definitely yes! Even if you are not a trained marketeer, there are many things you can do yourself with a bit of training and guidance. In fact, I am known for my love of info sheets, which I hand out in copious quantities to my clients who are eager to learn more about marketing.
